Higher energy efficiency through digitalization
FACO as a reference company for the efficiency agency
Operational environmental management and sustainable corporate governance are important to us. For this reason, we have implemented two projects with the Effizienz-Agentur NRW (EFA). The joint collaboration was a lot of fun. And the results are impressive. Through process optimisation we were able to achieve all sustainable goals. How this came about and how other companies can also benefit from the offer - we would like to report on this in this blog.
Our path with the efficiency-agency NRW
The Effizienz-Agentur NRW (EFA) was founded in 1998 on the initiative of the North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry of the Environment. The range of services includes resource efficiency and financing advice as well as events and training courses for medium-sized companies.
When we first came into contact with the EFA in 2016, we were just involved in the municipal ECOPROFIT project. We got to know our contact person at the EFA, Matthias Graf, during an ÖKÖPROFIT workshop. Through him we learned more about the concrete programs and the intensive promotion of the EFA also for companies of our size and industry. Matthias Graf gained an insight into our company and our requirements and wishes during a visit to FACO and subsequently recommended a "strategy workshop".
Establishment of resource cost accounting and development of a new business segment
It took us two years to decide on the path with the Efficiency Agency. The development of new business areas and the establishment of resource cost accounting were our focus. Both topics require time, know-how and the willingness to rethink. The Efficiency Agency of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia supported us financially and in terms of content. We received further support in terms of content from Prof. Dr. Andre Döring in his capacity as a management consultant.
The first project began in 2018 with "resource efficiency consulting". Based on the data obtained, we restructured the order organization so that today we can continuously adjust the profitability of orders in a digital monitoring process in real time. We can shorten the throughput times of the orders and save time and resources.
During job planning, we also re-evaluated the sequence of the jobs, thus increasing the productivity of the machines and reducing rejects at the same time.
The EFA's resource efficiency advice can be called upon more than once. In 2020, we worked with the EFA again. It was about the development of our business field "FACO Secure Cage Systems" and the development of new target groups SCS - Secure Cage Systems.
Conclusion
Through a mix of resource-efficient products using less material and a new controlling system, we have reduced our material consumption by around 35 tonnes per year.
Since 2021, we have recorded continuous growth at SCS and are also expanding the security cages business segment for small and medium-sized enterprises. In doing so, we are addressing the needs and requirements of our customers in terms of physical data security in an increasingly individual manner.
We are pleased that the EFA has now selected us as a reference project and is reporting on us.
